Throughout history, man has been seduced by the idea of running wild into the Alaskan Frontier, whether prepared or completely deprived of preparation. Nevertheless, many that enter soon fail to realize the fate has been sealed and cannot leave without sacrificing some or all humanity. One of the many infamous examples of a person running into the wild is Chris McCandless. Chris McCandless may have been a reckless idiot but should be noted of some of the tedious efforts he made. One reason as to why Chris shows evidence of being reckless and stupid is how his personality clashed with others and told no one what he thought, possibly leading to the event of his disappearance “‘Chris was the sort of person who brooded about things,’ Carine observes.’If something bothered him, he wouldn’t come right out and say it. He’d keep to himself, harboring his resentment, letting the bad feelings build and build.’” (Krakauer, 122). Evidence also shows that after Chris visited his half family in El Segundo, California, he resented his father for leading a double life at one point and later left wanting to make his father feel the same way about being abandoned. I admire Chris for his boldness and charity, he wanted to do activities for the greater good.
