If the two religions of Buddhism and Christianity, were to be compared there wouldn’t be a whole lot in common with just looking at the traditions and what is believed. There are, however, some similarities if you were to look a little deeper into the ideas, rituals, and teaching that is formed within each one. Both of these religions are based on the teaching of a single figure. For Buddhism, this would be the Buddha. For Christian religions, they follow the teaching of the Messiah, Jesus. These two beings may seem different, but in fact, some of what they teach are very similar. The Buddha is not actually the real name of a man, but a title for one who has awoken (Partridge 202). The Buddhist Canon is made up of three sections that all together are called the “Three Baskets” (Partridge 211). For Christian religions they have the Bible that is made up of both the New and the Old Testament. These authoritative texts are used as a record to teach the religious followers the words of their leaders and other authoritative figures. They also set guidelines order within the religion.
There are a few different ways of meditation that the Buddhist use as a way to cleanse and purify their minds of any unholy thoughts as a way to help them be aware their feelings, thoughts, and pains (Partridge 219). Although Christians don't meditate, they are ‘Spirit-directed”. This is called Pentecostalism (Partridge 375). Pentecostalism and meditations are similar because they both involve a release of feelings and a free use of the body (Partridge 375).
The Four Noble Truths are taught as a way to guide Buddhists through the world. It is laid out for them to know what is right and wrong such as actions, speech, and mindfulness (Partridge 217). As well as what to stay away from, the evils. in order to live a holy
