I believe that this value can truly make someone happy if they choose to follow it. For example the author states, “That rush of good feeling that comes after a daily run, the inspiring conversation with a good friend, or the momentary flash of anger that arises when someone cuts in front of us in line—what could they have to do with big life matters? Everything, actually” (Gross-Loh 2). Here the author connects the chinese philosophical value with relevant experiences that has happened in one’s lifetime. The smallest inconvenience can result in a collapsed frown with disappointment until the day is over. While on the contrary, flashing out a gleaming smile at the clerk or lending a hand to a friend can brighten up the whole day. For example, in paraphrasing, the article stated that we as humans make better decisions when we integrate our minds and hearts as explained in paragraph 3 on the second page. The paragraph went in depth about how that just blending our emotions and rational thinking together can further lead to successful decisions. Successful decisions then lead to happier ones. From personal experience I can relate to this, as I found out that my most impactful and successful decisions were made with both mind and emotions. Particularly Once when I had to decide whether to c=go to an art school or not. Logically I thought it wouldn't help me because art didn’t mean much money to me at the time. But once I started adding my heart to the picture I saw that it was something that made me happy, something that I cannot decide leaving. Once the emotional thinking went with the logical it change the perspective and mindset towards the situation. Thinking this way helps in seeing the situation with two different lights; a black and white light.
