In my opinion, Christopher Columbus was an extremely awful thing for America. He did more awful than useful things. He cut down trees, ruined the environment, brought death and disease and he encouraged African slavery. When he traveled to Africa he was already familiar with slavery so he already knew the effects of it and how it tore families apart, but yet he still wanted to “extract riches” from the land.Digital History states “Between 1502 and 1870, when the Atlantic slave trade was finally suppressed, ten to fifteen million Africans were shipped to the Americas.” (Doc A) The good things he did were helpful but unnecessary because the Native Americans could still live with what they had.
