By the 15th century, an adventurous mariner named Christopher Columbus stumbled upon a “new world” while seeking a western route to Asia for its flavored spices. Although he never reached Asia throughout his journey, the discovery led to a nonstop of horrendous events. The significance of Christopher Columbus’s First Impression of American Peoples is the beginning of events that is now chronicles of a war created between the natives and non-natives. My primary source titled Christopher Columbus’s First Impressions of American People written by Oliver Dunn and James E. Kelley (1989) is important because other explorers and himself felt that they were obliged to take control and to force non-Europeans that the best way of life is their life; …show more content…
Nickerson asserts that “indisputably, the arrival of Columbus produced a clash of cultures further hampered by death by cultural oppression, by disrespect for native culture or traditions, by colonization, by violent usurpation of native lands, and by brutalization of native inhabitants.” Once he reached the Caribbean islands and discovered Native Americans, unutterable news had arrived back at homeland. There is no doubt the disruptions caused towards the natives is the result of Columbus’ encounters. Multiple squads of soldiers and missionary priests were sent to overcome and found independent missions. This is where Indians who were caught were made to denounce their heritage and convert. The Spanish and Europeans goals were to colonize, spread the love of Christianity, and to use the Americans anyway that is possible. Reading the articles, territories that which belong to the helpless natives were taken by force using advanced military technology. The importance of these similarities is that these stories contain in depth truth about their findings and reasons for invading. The explorers who have met the natives thinks it is their responsibility to bring structure to the “uncivil” lands because it is nothing they have ever seen before and whoever gets in the way which are the Indians will be
