Obesity is a medical, chronic disorder that consists of excessive body fat. It can increase the risk of health problems, such as diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea, just to name a few. In my opinion, I think it’s really important for parents to keep their children active to avoid obesity. It can affect a child’s future and slow down the child’s daily activities. A large percentage of children are obese; the cause of this can be the of lack of exercise, overeating, medical reasons, and in most cases, it can be genetic. Generally, obesity is caused by eating too much and moving too little. If you consume high amounts of energy, particularly fat and sugars, but don't burn off the energy through exercise and physical activity, much of the surplus energy will be stored by the body as fat. …show more content…
Childhood obesity has immediate and long-term impacts on physical, social, and emotional health. Children with obesity are at higher risk for having other chronic health conditions and diseases that impact physical health, such as asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, bone and joint problems, type 2 diabetes, and risk factors for heart disease. Children with obesity are bullied and teased more than their normal weight peers, and are more likely to suffer from social isolation, depression, and lower self-esteem. In the long term, childhood obesity also is associated with having obesity as an adult, which is linked to serious conditions and diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and several types of
