On February 20, Global Friends Coalition member Chuck Haga presented on the groups mission, and gave some background into refugees. Global Friends aides’ refugee resettlement in Grand Forks, and aims to build bridges between the community and refugees.
A refugee is someone who forced to leave their home country, and most refugees in Grand Forks are either Somalian or Bhutanese refugees. These individuals did not have a country to call home, and were previously living in refugee camps.
Haga stated that one of the biggest obstacles refugees face is adjusting to the cultural norms of America, stating, “most of the refugees’ women don't get to socialize like Americans”. To help bridge the cultural gap, many college students volunteer for Global
