When voting someone into a position of power there are many factors people must consider. These factors includes things such as the candidate's political party, the candidate’s stance on issues that are important to them, and many more. These are factors that I reviewed while deciding whether or not I would vote for Chuck Schumer as senator in the 2018 elections. Reviewing Schumer’s stances on issues such as health care, the environment, and gun control, have helped me decide to vote Chuck Schumer as Senator again. Whenever I take a quiz telling me about my political stance, they always tell me that I am a liberal democrat. I believe that this accurately describes my political alignment and that the issues that are important me are reflected by this. The three main issues I care about the most are health care, the environment, and gun control. When it comes to health care, I believe that health care should be more accessible to the public. Also that healthcare for women should not be limited to strictly. Schumer helped introduce the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which mandated federal background checks when buying firearms. This shows Schumer’s support of gun control laws. Also according to Voter Smart’s votes section, when it came to the motion of prohibiting the sale of assault weapons, even though the amendment was eventually rejected, Schumer voted in favor of it. The National Rifle Association (NRA) who tend to want gun laws to be extremely loose and who I generally never agree, according to Voter Smart’s ratings section only gave Schumer a seven percent approval rating which means he must mostly go against what they want.
