There are many events in my life that have caused me to be extremely thankful for finally being able to go back to school. I have tried to restart my educational endeavors time and time again. Each time I was thrown five steps back. This time everything just felt different. I’ve finally started to work towards something that means a lot to me!
I’ve gone throughout my whole life not truly knowing what happens next. While always being spontaneous with everything, I worked as a bartender for almost ten years. IT was quick and easy money. He ended up relieving me of my managerial duties. I was extremely upset at first, because leaving that job was financial suicide. I went to my car with tears in my eyes, and called my boyfriend. I told him what happened, and he told me to calm down and not to worry. I immediately started searching for a new job. After six months of not being offered anything outside of the bar industry, I finally received an interview with State Farm.
I went and got my licenses for property, casualty, life, and health. I was doing well for the first six months. Then I found out that I was expecting my first child. I started really thinking about where my future was heading. I prayed more for a direction. I stepped back and realized what I was meant to do. It came to me when I found myself more interested in training the new employees than focusing on insurance sales. That’s when I decided to do some more research.
All I knew for sure is that I wanted to be somewhere in the workforce training and development field. Most jobs in that field require a bachelor’s degree at minimum. I then looked up which degrees would allow me to work in that field. The one that stood out to me was human resource management.
