Jim Braddock was one of the best boxers, until during one fight he breaks his hand. He needs his hand to heal, therefore he can not box. This means he is not making any money for his family. Jim had three kids and a wife named Mae. There are so many reasons why Jim needed to support her and his family. Almost everyone during this time are going through the Great Depression. Jim is in a tough situation. Him and his family needs money, but he can’t fight with a broken hand. It was very difficult for anyone to find a job and to work on a daily basis. You had to wait your turn and it could be weeks until you get your turn to work at the doc. This movie had a very fast moving plot and moved along with the story very quickly. In one scene, they switch fights without it even showing us that he won the fights. I think that in certain parts they needed to slow it down. When he went to the producers for boxing to beg for money for the heat bill, I was very confused where he was and who he was asking. I wish they would of gave us a caption or showed us the building for a little bit longer so we knew who he was talking to. This movie did a very good job of holding the viewer’s interest. When I was watching the movie, I always wanted to see how they were going to come up with the money they needed, or what choice they were going to make because they were faced with very hard decisions. After Mae (the wife) sent the kids away because the heat shut off because they couldn’t pay their bill and Jim (the husband) found out, I had no idea what he was going to do. I didn’t know how he was going to come up with the money because he is not working very much and I knew that he wanted his kids back
