Even before the beginning of my high school career, I had the need to provide my services to help the people who needed it most. I carried this drive throughout high school and participated in many projects showcasing civic engagement. Throughout my high school career, I have provided my time, talent, and creativity to show my own civic engagement through working with groups on projects that bind communities, promote success, and provide awareness for needing causes. My time spent working with my school’s marching band was a time well spent. Not only did we practice our shows which would be performed at various community events but we also participated in events that would further support causes such as childhood cancer research. Every year we spend countless hours working with each other, putting together an indoor percussion show that we bring to world competition in Dayton, Ohio. While it feels amazing to be able to represent this organization on a world scale, it is not about the competition. My favorite part about participating in this organization is being able to connect with my peers, of all age groups, on a person level. Through these people, I can reach out to others in my attempt to further progress an already fast growing community where ordinary people, like myself, are connected from across the world. I want to use my talents to connect with others and inspire them to follow their own passions. Not only have I served as a role model for the individuals in the group I call home, my connection with individuals in competing groups has helped to inspire more than just the small group of people around me. In the future, I plan to use the resources available to me to create large communities like this one, communities that bind people from across the world and allow people to connect with others with their same
