Most people know that after the civil war, slaves were set free, and there were good and bad results to the south. The whites had trouble rebuilding their homes after the war. They didn't trust the freed slaves. And to add to the mix, the slaves weren't treated that fairly. But reconstruction was a time for fixing and remolding the south. Reconstruction had been a time of success and failures. When the civil war was won, it gave African-Americans and slaves opportunities they'd never dreamed of. Reconstruction gave free states and slave states the ability to leave and search for jobs. Manufacturing which hadn't been a very popular thing in the south was skyrocketing. This meant that new jobs were open, businesses and products were being developed. But it wasn't all rosy and peachy keen for the whites when the slaves were set free. I think that this was a good aspect of the reconstruction because it allowed more people to have chances at earning money and not living in poverty. There were also problems after the civil war ended. Many of the whites were mourning for male family members, they had to rebuild their homes and stores from the ground again, and Africans were resented by white southerners. The men however, had to find work in different parts of towns and cities, this meant they were paid a minimum wage. Africans and freed slaves could not work important jobs like jury, working as a mayor, or jobs of high pay. Many children were separated in school because the color of their skin, but they still earned an education.
