Who inspires you to conquer your dreams? Clara Barton and Florence Nightingale have inspired and influenced me, even more, to pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN.) Clara Barton is memorable for being a very young educator at the age of 15, an American nurse and founder/President of the well-known American Red Cross. Another famous woman in the medical field is Florence Nightingale. Nightingale is known as the “Lady with the Lamp” because she assembled a team of nurses and reduced the death rate by two-thirds at a British base hospital. Both Barton and Nightingale made history as nurses in healthcare. Her performance impressed her employer so much that she was promoted to superintendent. Nightingale’s goal was to improve hygiene practices, lowering the death rate at the hospital in the process. Florence received a letter from Secretary of War Sidney Herbert, asking her to assemble a team of nurses to care for the sick and fallen soldiers in the Crimea in late 1854. Clara Barton set out to help the soldiers any way that she could. Barton collected and distributed supplies for the Union Army. They both deserve to be praised for transforming nursing into an honorable vocation. Clara Barton was the founder/President of the well-known American Red Cross. Florence Nightingale was known as the “Lady with the Lamp” by reducing a British bas hospital by two-thirds. I personally loved to educate myself on the famous female figures in the field that I wish to pursue one day. I could only dream of becoming the women that they are one day. I am not able to pick my favorite female figure because they are equally inspiring to me. If you are considering going into the medical field or are considering being a nurse then those two should definitely be your role
