Clifton Strengthsquest: Self-Analysis

Throughout this semester, I reluctantly worked on assigned journal entries for this course not knowing that the insight I have gained, in the process, will shape me as a student, employee, leader, and person. This insight I mentioned is on the signature talent themes found in StrengthsQuest: Discover and Develop Your Strengths in Academics, Career, and Beyond. In StrengthsQuest authors Donald Clifton, Edward Anderson, and Laurie Schreiner state that “Talent is the beginning of strength. A talent is a naturally recurring pattern… that can be productively applied” (2). According to the authors, a strength is having the capability to perform “near-perfect” and to deliver with consistency in a certain field of activity (Clifton, Anderson, and Schreiner 4). There are thirty four signature talent themes measured by the Clifton StrengthsFinder tool, these being the most prevalent. The purpose of acquiring this knowledge is to one day embark on a strengths quest, a “quest to achieve excellence and become all you can be through… natural talents” (10). …show more content…
My five most dominant themes are positivity, communication, woo, harmony, and includer. Positivity meaning I flourish in optimistic environments where celebration is encouraged. Communication and includer are similar in the sense that I have no stigma associated with speaking, or introducing myself to strangers. Woo is an acronym and stands for “winning others over” (64). Harmony represents a side of me that is always seeking peace in situations; I avoid confrontation and hostility. I believe that these themes depict my personality very well.
