Chinese scientists have recently been able to clone primates. The two monkeys are completely genetically identical and are long-tailed macaques. The technique that was used to clone the monkeys is the same technique that had been used in 1996 to create Dolly the sheep. The two monkeys, Hua Hua and Zhong Zhong, were cloned by somatic cell transfer, which means that scientists took the nucleus out of one of the eggs and replaced it with a different nucleus.
