Many women helped the movement just as much as men did, even though they had different roles in it. They guided the shape of the movement in organizers, editors, decision makers, and helped publicize the Harlem Renaissance. The era acted as a celebration of the intellectual achievements of African Americans. Club Women and Blues Women were out to help the rights of the blacks. Club Women were establishing rights at prostitutes and thieves. As the Blues Women established economic independence from men and take part in leisure, such as gambling, sex and drinking.
