Griffin Electric Company On December 3rd, 2014, Greg and Maja from Griffin Electric Company came to Roger Williams to discuss the process a subcontractor has on a project. This process is much different from the general contractor. I was very happy that a subcontractor came to give a presentation because the program here at Roger Williams is based on working for a general contractor. Many people believe that subcontractors are a step below the general contractors, almost makes it seem that they are less intelligent than those who work for general contractors. The truth is that subcontractor work is a major part in the industry and there are a lot of career paths for many through subcontractors. I was glad that the subcontractors came in and gave everyone a different perspective of subcontractors. One of the most interesting points that Greg talked about was his experience on a large majority of projects. He discussed how his friends that work for general contractors are doing different work than he is doing. They are still going through the administrative stage of the construction industry by doing submittals, RFI’s, etc. Greg however is estimating, managing projects, and helping out on designs when he is called to do so.
