The Coast Guard’s core values are Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty. To me Honor means to have high respect for someone or something and it also a synonym for privilege. Not just to attend the academy but to serve in the Coast Guard you have to have a high respect for your country and for you brothers and sisters fighting alongside you.

In the Coast Guard you need to have respect for you peers because your lives may depend on one another. Honor also means privilege because to go the Academy is not a right, it is an extremely high privilege that only so many get to hold. As an Eagle scout when I hear Honor, I think about the Scout Oath with starts out by saying “On my Honor I will to my best to do my duty to God and my country…” Boy Scouts
