Apple has done a good job with their social and ethical responsibilities. After the teen suicides at Chinese manufacturer Foxconn last year, Apple has investigated and reported child labor violation, toxic conditions, and other violations of their code of ethics. Using the Pyramid of Social Responsibility, I think it’s safe to say that Apple's actions against unethical and illegal conduct is to better society.
Apple has done a tremendous job concerning environmental issues that range from toxic material removal from its products to the recycling and the use greenhouse gas emission. Not only is Apple exceeding the environmental impact of its products in a positive way, Apple also support Bono in his Product Red Campaign by contributing it's revenue to fight against AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. With Apple actively involved with social responsibility, Its shows that not only is Apple an incredibly profitable corporation but a socially responsible one. The Apple Supplier Code of Conduct involves five areas: Labor and human right, health and safety, the environment, ethics and management commitment. Apple said it would monitor the social responsibility performance of its supplier and terminate business with those who fails to meet Apple’s expectation consistently. Which makes sure that the customer is always satisfied.
Every organization can increase their ethics and social responsibility. There is always room for growth and increase. Apple can start and community based charity that will supporting local community projects to improve lives of the people local to the Apple stores; financially or through volunteer programs. They can help with environmental projects, helping with advertising recycling and other environmental projects.
Apple’s goal is to bring the best personal computing, mobile communication and portable digital music and video experience to consumers, students, educators, businesses, and government agencies through its innovative hardware, software, peripherals, services, and Internet offerings.
