The documentary Paycheck to Paycheck is a real eye opener to the hardships that a single mother or single parent has to face. Katrina Gilbert is a single mother of three who for the most part must solely take care of her children while also balancing her numerable health problems, bills, and maintaining her job as caretaker for the elderly. While watching the documentary you begin to feel a sort of unease and what can only be described as a strange sense of sorrow for Gilbert and her children. Being raised by a single mother it is somewhat easy to relate to the struggles that the family have to overcome I can remember through my earlier years when my parents divorced things drastically changed from being able to live comfortably to barely making ends meet and most of the time having to do without. There is a lot of missing information to completely draw upon an accurate inference but from what the viewer can tell it seems as if Jeremy may be somewhat torpid and unwilling to pull his own weight to take care of the children. The viewer early in the film finds out that Jeremy in the past was addicted to painkillers we do not know if he still has this problem but it is easy to tell that he still siphons money out of Katrina much like he did when they were married to feed his heinous obsession with pain pills. Katrina states that they were married for ten years before they separated into different households and the only thing that keeps them in their marriage is that they cannot afford a divorce. The relationship between Jeremy and Katrina although distant is still somewhat table considering that they do not seem to argue or use the kids as pawns to push the other
