The works of Coco Chanel Coco Chanel became famous for her fashion in her early years. This quick rise of fashion created an impact on many people even today. Coco Chanel said, “My life didn’t please me. So I created my life”. Despite her hard early life, Chanel overcame her pre planned future and became a very famous fashion designer instead. Chanel was a very influential designer to many people in the 1920’s. Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born in a workhouse in the Loire Valley on August 19, 1883. She was born to her unmarried mother who worked at the workhouse she was born in. When she was six years old, her mother passed away and Chanel was given to her father as well as 5 other children which he ended up giving away to relatives later. Chanel was put in an orphanage by her father, who worked as a peddler. She was raised by nuns who taught her how to sew—a skill that would lead to her life’s work (Coco Chanel). Chanel became a better seamstress from going on vacation to the capital of Moulins with her relatives. While learning to sew, she became so good that she became a seamstress for Aubazine, the first place where her father took her. The reason why she learned more from the nuns was because nuns believed that every child should be able to sew for different reasons.
