Scenario A
It would not do any good to raise suspicion about the cause of death and parental competence of 6-week year old, named Eric. As a social worker it is the ethical thing to do. As stated in the NASAW Code of Ethics, which “Offers a set of values, principles, and standards to guide decision making and conduct when ethical issue arise (www.socilworker.org).” As a social worker we are to promote the well-being of the client. In this situation the issue should be address with others such as the physician in charge. If I was Evita, the social worker in charge, I would talk with the physician in charge and disclose what information I that I know. Revealing this information could also help Brenda and Bill in that they may be wanting to have another child/children in the future and education on what SIDS is and offering some preventive measures could help this from occurring again.

Scenario B
It would not do any good for Harry to report the income of Dora but it is the ethical thing to do as a social worker. As stated in the NASAW Code of Ethics, we as social workers have an ethical standard to up hold. The Code of Ethics, “Is our set of values to guide decision making and conduct when ethical issues arise (www.socialwowrker.org).” Harry should reveal the income because of his duty and commitment to the code of ethics as a social worker. Harry could help Dora with some other options that may be available to help tie her over until she starts working ( since she is participating in the compulsory job training program), If this income does effect the help she is getting from the public assistance program.
