Cody Road Bourbon is a whiskey that was created by Mississippi River Distilling Company. It is named after William “Buffalo Bill” Cody, who was a showman born in Le Claire, Iowa in 1846. This particular bourbon is made from 70% corn that comes from Le Claire, 20% wheat, and 10% unmalted barley that both come from Reynolds, IL. Before selling, it is aged for one year in 30 gallon oak barrels (much smaller than normal whiskey barrels) that are charred. Aging the bourbon in barrels that are about half the size of regular whiskey barrels speeds up the general aging process. The company that produces Cody Road Bourbon Whiskey, Mississippi River Distilling Company, is located in Le Claire, Iowa and was started in 2010. Cody Road is an important product to their company because they take pride in their “grain to grass” process. When it comes to the flavor of their products, it is one unlike any other. The company aims for a delightful balance of a sweet, creamy flavor that comes from the wheat and corn mixed with the nuttiness that is extracted from the barley. Each bottle is 90 proof, so it is a very strong bourbon full of flavor, since it comes in such small bottles compared to other whiskeys. Each and every bottle is hand numbered telling the year that it was made, the batch number, and a particular bottle number. By going to the company’s website and entering these numbers, the consumer is able to see the specific names of the farmers who grew the grain, and the day its batch was created, distilled, and bottled. Cody Road Bourbon is appealing to anyone who appreciates a unique drink. Because the company makes everything so special and personal, when people buy or drink Cody Road they think of it as a treat or special occasion for themselves. It is extremely popular among middle to upper class citizens, especially males. The majority of the customers are considered to be men ages 35-55, but is not limited to that specific market. Anyone over the age of 21 in the United States can legally consume the product, although the older crowd is generally the group that has an acquired taste for this kind of product, especially whiskey. Cody Road started on a local level, becoming very popular by word of mouth. This is because at a level this small, costumers are able to take actual tours of the distillery and see first-hand how the whiskey is made. Cody Road began in Iowa and Illinois, but has since expanded to 25 states and three foreign countries. Customers everywhere, especially in the U.S., appreciate the fact that they know where their product is coming from and that it is handcrafted from local farmers and Iowa companies. The brewery that produces Cody Road is at its current capacity for barrels, and sales are projected to be 30-40% higher than last year, according to the
