Effects of the Cold War in U.S.

In the year of 1947 began the Cold War. This war affected the way of life for people all over the United States of America for almost 50 years. Imagine two kids who are in a rubber band war but all it is, is two kids pulling the rubber bands as far as they can go and waiting for the other to fire first. Just like these two boys, all of America was sitting in anticipation. Rather than a rubber band they were waiting for a nuclear war to erupt.
The first example would be the President Harry Truman's Loyalty Program in 1947. This program made clear that any that anyone who wasn't loyal to the United States would be under the penalty of immediate termination. With this, J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the Federal Bureau

The youth of this time era had a great impact from the war. In schools today we have drill such as fire, tornadoes, hurricane, lock down, and so many more based on where you live.However the children during the cold war had a different type of drill to worry about. The had a drill for nuclear war. During this drill, they were tested to see how fast they could get under their desks. In some schools, all it would be would the teacher would yell drop and the children had to hid under their desks. There is also accounts of schools that required the students to wear metal "dog tags," like the ones worn by World War II soldiers, so that the bodies of students could be identified after an attack. Later in 1951 a video started to be made to show the kids in school. Made to appeal to the children, the hero of the video was a turtle who ducked in his shell when a monkey set off a firecracker near by. This was suppose to help make the importance known to the students of America. The video was released in 1952 and was called “Duck and Cover”. It was shown all over the country. During the Cold War Punk music was released to express the hatred for the government. While the hippie music went against the Vietnam War. Also during this time Rock and Roll came out. Rock and Roll took a great effect of fashion and attitudes. Some people believe that the band known as The Beatles helped bring down Communism. Another example for media would be the television and films. With the fear in everyone’s hearts and minds of another war Hollywood had a great opportunity to make several films and movies. There were several films made about another war or you would see the Soviet Union portrayed by extraterrestrial life
