What is average? This is a question we all ask ourselves. Does anyone really know what average is? Most people fall into the average category when living life. “The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain.” This is a quote spoken by Colin Wilson. In his quote Wilson is saying that most people in this world are average. As an average person we all just accept what is going on in the world around us. He says that people are not capable of doing anything about what is going on. The world is always in a state of disaster, so it seems, but Wilson claims that we the average man do nothing about it. I disagree with Wilson; the average man is capable of solving problems, being the hero, and changing the world. Think about it, when you hear the word hero most people think of a superhero with magic powers. That is the exact opposite of the true meaning of a hero. A hero in everyday life is just the average man. Remember when you were young and you had fallen off of your bike? Who was that that came to your rescue? Most peoples answer will be their dad. These are the people that grew up calling their father their hero. This is just an average man who has made the biggest impact in their children’s lives. Another everyday hero to most children is your average volunteer fireman. These guys and ladies are just your average civilian who works an everyday job, but is a hero as their second job. Look at the biggest crisis to hit American soil, the September 11 terrorist attacks. Every person pulled together to save every person that they could. A hero doesn’t have to be some spectacular super being with special powers, a hero is someone that we look up to, and that we know will be there no matter
