Collectivist Society Exposed In Ayn Rand's Anthem

In the worldwide famous book “Anthem” Ayn Rand tells the story of what life would be like if the allies hadn’t won WWI, she describes all the rules and sins and transgressions that the council has deemed appropriate for this date and time. Rand writes the book in an omniscient point of view, telling things the way they are seen through the eyes of the main character, Equality 7-2521. In this book Equality first wishes to be like all his brothers, he wishes to be “normal” and seen like the rest of them, but when Equality notices that he is different, that he isn’t meant to be like his brothers, he doesn’t let the world council, or the palace of corrections stop him. Have you ever wanted to just write and write all the new ideas you have, in this society it’s a transgression. Ayn helps understand what a collectivist society is through a strict world council who allows little to no independent living. The world council dictates every movement that Equality and all of his brothers make, when someone disobeys, they get sent to the palace of corrections. The palace of corrections then beats and/or starves their prisoners as punishment, in some cases, one in particular, they burn them at the stake. The world council doesn’t want anyone to be alone because when people are alone it gives them time to think about new things and themselves, it gives people time to think differently than their brothers.
