In It Ends with Us, Colleen Hoover wants to show that a constant cycle of abuse in a family can be stopped with the desire for change. When people want change, it is very important to acknowledge the reasons why there has been nothing done about that particular type of situation. People that have been mistreated, tend to become numb or used to the abuse that they have endured. From the novel it states, "The first time your father hit me, he was immediately sorry. He swore it would never happen again. Instead of the father admitting his faults, he begged for forgiveness, not acknowledgment of what he had done.
