To me, being a teacher is more than wanting to work with children or teenagers. It’s loving a topic so much that you want to share your knowledge with others. It’s wanting to be a positive influence on the lives of others. It’s being a mentor and a scholar for those who seek out your guidance. I want to become a teacher for all these reasons, it’s what I want to give back to the world.
I was enrolled at the SUNY University at Albany from 2013 to 2017 and graduated with a bachelor of arts in American History. I chose to study at Albany because of their business program and wanted to graduate with a major in accounting; but I had a poor freshman year so I switched to a major in history. I finished my time at Albany with my GPA improved every semester and I made it onto dean’s list. I had to learn a hard lesson on how to prepare and execute in a college class, now going into a graduate program I am ready for the challenge.

As I continued my studies I began to work closer with the professors and doctors in the history department. They inspired me to work towards my goal of becoming a teacher and keep trying to improve. Yet, it was an old high school teacher who made me first think about becoming a teacher. Every day I looked forward to his class and my interest in history grew. It quickly became my strongest class which helped me believe in myself more as a student. His kindness towards his students, passion for history, and ability to keep students interested is what I hope to emulate in my own
