The Day I Left Looking back now I can say exactly when my parents made the decision to move to another country. I was very nervous and did not know what to expect. A lot of things when through my mind as of what to expect to see or feel. As soonest we arrived to the states my life felt completely different.
As a child I didn’t really have much to say other than follow my parents everywhere they went. But who knew that a decision made by both of your parents could change my life for better or worst. I was 12 years old when I came to the Unites States of America. We did not know the language nor the culture that we were transitioning to. At that point I felt different, everything that I saw on my surroundings was new to me. I felt like wanting to go back home. But there wasn’t any home no more, my parents had sold everything to move to the states.
Normally, I am not very quiet but I started to be and didn’t say much, but my head kept on spinning all the time. I kept asking myself a bunch of questions such as, why did we came to this country in the first place? How am I going to learn a new language? But could not find the answers. But as I got older I started to understand the reasons behind my parents’ decision to move away from Venezuela. About almost 15 years ago, months after we left the country a new president came on board, “Chavez”. As many people already know he turned the country upside down. Taking away properties from residents and even their businesses. Controlling food per household. The country stated to be a completely communist. At that time my parents owned a business and they saw what was coming with the new president and decided to risk everything they owned and flee to the states. It is not easy for them to approve 6 Visas at the same time for the whole family. But they did. With a lot of prayer and believing in Jahovah God, we wore able to leave the country
