College Admissions Essay: Why College Isn T For Everyone

College isn’t for everyone. That’s what I have always heard. On the other hand, staying in your home town isn’t for everyone, either. I definitely fit the bill for both of those statements. My solution, join the military. The military offered me the chance to get out of town and work on a career. I told myself I don’t need college, the Air Force will teach me the skills I need. This was a good plan, it seemed, until a short stay in a hospital changed that. The doctor came to me, hesitant. He told me my career in the military was over because I had developed Type 1 Diabetes. In a matter of days I quickly realized that I was fairly ill equipped to find new work. There was a good bit of trial and error. I searched for work in Kentucky. I decided a move to Indiana would be more worth my while. Finally, a break in the job hunt led me to Havelock, North Carolina. The work is pretty good, but ever since those days in the hospital I have been wondering will I be prepared if something else happens to put me out of work or a career. No I am not prepared. Finding Mt. Olive has felt like a blessing. Adult programs for working students and a campus near me. I thought it had to be too good to be true. I took the plunge regardless. There was a lot of research that happened before applying, however. Ongoing research, as a matter of fact. I’m excited for what this school and program have to offer me. Completing my bachelors in Business Management will, in theory, open up numerous new opportunities for me. I do not plan on leaving my current work, but I do plan on climbing the ladder there. Of course with excitement, there is usually coupled anxiety and/or nervousness. I would be a fool to try and tell you that I don’t share some of this emotion. There is a vast nervousness that I do not have what it takes to complete a college
