The Struggle of College Athletes College athletes are a very rare breed. Not everyone can perform at the same level that college athletes can on a day to day basis. Not only that, but trying to handle their stressful everyday schedules is enough to breakdown an average person. When they sign to play their respective sport they are practically signing their souls over to the game. Non-athletes argue that college athletes should not be paid. They think they have concrete reasons as to why they shouldn’t be paid. Until they have gone through what college athletes go through their reasons will always have faults. All college athletes should receive some kind of stipend while they are involved in their sports. The meal plans for college athletes are normally covered in their athletic scholarships. The meals served in cafeterias on college campuses aren’t tailored to the needs of the athletes. For their sports they may need to gain or lose weight to enhance their performance. In order for that to happen they would need healthy meals packed with proteins and carbohydrates. Individuals against college athletes being paid have brought up that if they were paid then every single athlete for every single team would have to be paid. Every college sports team brings in its own revenue. Therefore athletes would be paid according to the revenue that their sport brings in. In addition to the argument above, an argument that also stands out is the fact the athletes already receive athletic scholarships. Students that don’t play any sports can earn academic and/or local scholarships. The only difference is that students have the time to have a fulltime job and student athletes don’t.
