Society assumes that the only people capable of going to college are the ones who are intelligent, or knowledgeable. The real definition of intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills, and knowledge is what you gain through experience. The point is you don’t have to be book smart to be knowledgeable.. A college education is essential in today’s society, and as time goes on the only way to have a high-paying job is to get a college education. Going to college seems to be the best way to expand your future, it will help to have a long life as well as a healthy lifestyle, it will maximize their intelligence and they will most likely have a better chance at a career that pays very highly. When thinking of having a healthier lifestyle and living longer one would think of eating healthy foods, going on a diet, or working out, not once would it come to mind to further your education. According to studies “Mortality rates for Americans ages 25 to 64 who have attended college are less than half the rates for those who stopped education after completing high school” (Source C). As time goes on, more and more jobs require a college degree. There still are some jobs that accept GED or High School Diploma’s as a high level of education but a high percentage of high paying jobs require a bachelor’s degree.
