Color motif creates a common connection between certain colors and certain feelings.Within the book thief, you find an abundance of colors that describes the feelings and moods of the scenes and characters. Color motif is considered and import motif, seeing it is a motif that is repeated quite significantly in a majority of the book. Color motifs create the central idea of grief,power, and pain through the description and the presence of that particular color. The idea or reputation of grief is displayed through the color of white. In The Book Thief the color white is said To have a ¨tired sort of nonsense¨ (6). Then the book goes forth To say ¨As you might expect, someone has died¨ (6). Nevertheless this shows grief through the color white by virtue of Liesel's brother warner was buried in the white snow and we also know this was a time of grief considering the book goes on to say ¨Tears were frozen to the book thief's face.¨ ( 8).This proves the sadness and grief within that moment. It also goes on to describe Liesel as a ¨pale¨ ¨Empty-stomached¨ and ¨Frost-stricken¨ girl (8). We look at this on page 12 of The Book Thief where it says “blood streamed till it was dry on the road and the bodies were stuck there like Driftwood, After the flood”. This shows us the pain. We all know when you receive a cut and it is bleeding it hurts, but this event hurts times 100.
