Women and girls, mainly of color face a great deal of danger because they are at major risk of assaulted, raped, beaten, shot, and killed by law enforcement. As talked about in “Law Enforcement Violence Against Women of Color” by Ritchie, she talks about how women of color, mainly “African Americans and Latina women are incarcerated pursuant to “law and order” agendas and “war on drugs””. (Ritchie pg139) If comparing the number of women arrested from 1980 to now, the numbers have gone up dramatically. Women of color also need to worry about countless other things, such as assault and harassment by the law enforcement, where the women are defenseless. This is affecting a woman in ways where they do not know where to go for help when they really need it. …show more content…
This is basically saying that once a woman finally has had enough with the abuse and harassment from their partner, they decided to act in self-defense and protect themselves; the batterers are protected more than the survivors. In 2008 there was a case where a wife shot and killed her husband(who was a cop) after suffering from abuse for years, it all happened after one argument where the husband pointed a gun to her head after refusing to go on vacation with him. A couple of hours after the argument, she shot and killed him and was charged with second-degree murder, even though the murder charges were dropped, she still faced jail time for possession of a gun. It is disappointing to read about an officer who thinks he has the power to belittle someone who really cannot defend
