Sharing humor is a sign of connection between people and having a connection with another person create closeness. We often see humor used in social settings and there are boundaries, depending on the person, which must not be crossed. We can clearly see this when two people do not share the same sense of humor. It is impossible to build or maintain a relationship where a person make many attempts at being funny, but the end results are negative feedback from their peers. Often time, when a person is part of a group who do share the same sense of humor are shunned. When a group laugh together at the same joke there is a sense of kinship and those who do not join in the laugh are outsiders. Comedy is an art we should not censored and restrict. Although, this does not justify comedians to say that anyone who takes offense from their words as being sensitive. Comedians share similarity with poets and painters with their abilities to mix art and philosophy while entertaining their audience. Collins said in his article, “Comedy and Liberty Lenny Bruce”, it stated “The Lenny Bruce story teaches us, among other things, that where comedy is the measure, we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously. Assuredly, we stand to be offended. But that is the price of liberty” (Ronald 23). What we can learn from Lenny Bruce’s trial is toleration. It’s true that toleration can produce bias opinion and insult our beliefs, but we should not always turn towards the law and take refuge. Instead of turning towards the law as a way out, discussing about controversial subject may change our view, and improve our understanding. We need to take into consideration the subject we find offensive can be subjective as what we find funny and
