Clara M. Garvin My Grandmother
Have you ever had one really special unique relationship with someone in your life that you can’t compare to any other like maybe it was with your mother, or father, a best friend your husband or wife or your children.
My one of a kind relationship was with my grandmother Clara Garvin. Clara was a beautiful person from the inside out with a heart of gold. We had a special bond the kind of bond that makes you feel understood, loved and grateful. If I had a problem or there was something bad going on in my life I knew I could go to her and talk and at the same time get advice without being judged or criticized in any way. I had complete trust and confidence in her and knew I could tell her anything. She was the one person who knew everything about me and still liked me anyway. Looking back when I was a teenager I now realize that I wasn’t the easiest person to get along with. The relationship I had with my grandmother was vital because I could express my feelings and frustrations with someone other than my mother or my father who I viewed as disciplinarians at the time. Due to the fact that my parents were divorced, I would visit my grandmother and father every other weekend or more if possible. Our bond began then and as long as I can remember my grandmother was my favorite person.
Grammy or Money Gram as I used to call her due to the fact that we would go shopping every Saturday early in the morning so my grandmother and I would be able to have quality time together either watch TV, crochet or knit, or do projects for school. My Grandmother was the best person to learn from; she was a Jack of all Trades; she knew how to do anything and everything no word of a lie she was amazing.
These memories we built each weekend we spent together made me realize what an amazing person my grandmother was. My fondest memories with my grandmother was washing her van, mowing the grass, planting flowers in the front yard, having coffee in the morning and toast for breakfast with cinnamon and sugar and help out my uncles in the family business, Proficiency Engineering. We had so many fun times and enjoyed every minute of it. Eventually my grandmother was diagnosed with advanced Lung Cancer. She took care of everybody all her life, while working at Cushing
