Coming-of-age is genre of literature and film, which follows the growth of youth from childhood to adulthood. This period is met with both victories and losses like trying to fit into identify formation, the struggle against authority, Friendship groups and relationships. The reliability coming-of-age has with all of society has seen this genre of literature and films become it is one of the most popular. Some texts that depict young adults striving to form a unique identity encourage readers to challenge the status quo. These texts are powerful and life changing. The novel follows Charlie, who is a high school freshman who finds it hard to fit in to society’s expectations. Charlie is struggling to cope with the recent suicide of Michael, one of his only real friends. As a result, Charlie suffers from chronic social anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder.
