Despite our best efforts, despite trying to hold on to immaturity as best we can, we grow up, and we come of age. Coming of age… What does it mean to come of age? That is a very good question, one with numerous answers. The dictionary definition of coming of age reads, “(of a person) reach adult status.” In my opinion, that is close to what it means. I believe it’s more than just turning eighteen. I believe that coming of age means to reach the age in which you can be more responsible and be able to help support your family. When a person comes of age, the most likely receive new responsibilities. For example, as a youth, most of the time you will rely on your parents or other family members to do laundry, make food, or provide transportation.
