“Guys, guess what? I’m going to America”, I told my friends so ecstatically. At the time I did not realize the difficulties I would have to encounter; all I could think of was the thought of me traveling to the greatest country in the world as a permanent resident. When the time came for me to leave my family, friends, and relatives, I felt nostalgic and disengaged. But, life is full of opportunities. One of the many reasons why people come to America is for opportunity. Living in India would be a waste of opportunity that is waiting for me in America. So I decided to let go of my past and embrace the future. I came to the United States on 23 September 2010. The long anticipated moment was finally here. Immediately, I began working on my pronunciation and interpretation. I started watching American TV shows, talked to as many people as I could, and even tried singing American songs. I carefully listened and tried to speak exactly the way people spoke to me. Overtime, Not only did I begin to conquer my communication gap, but also overcame many difficulties that came along with immigrating to a new country. I made many new friends, and I can now speak English almost fluently. Problem-solving was always one of my best qualities. The way I could conquer my communication gap, I feel as if I could conquer almost any obstacle that life puts in my way. Determination and hard work is the key to success, which is why I would work as hard as I possibly can to complete any task without giving up. My determination has led to believe that I should not give up on any task that I begin and that I should rise to any challenge that life provides.
