After reading David Foster Wallace’s commencement speech “this is water”, I have been thinking a lot about bringing some changes to my life or even life, after I graduate. Wallace’s speech is mainly about demonstrating an adult lifestyle for graduating students, and giving them advice of keeping themselves away from “default settings”. The term “default setting” Wallace is using means a phenomenon that people are always tend to put themselves a center of the universe which could lead to being “arrogant” or ruthless to other people in their life. All of these might be happening in my future life without this vivid speech that Wallace presented to those students and to all of people struggling in their adult life.
