The Lone Survivor The Lone Survivor is a book written by Marcus Luttrell. Marcus was born and raised in Texas. Marcus writes about is outstanding military and personal life experiences that help him get through the many challenges that he had to face. Marcus was shot in his leg and shot at several hundred times. Marcus was hit by the impact of several rocket propelled grenades (RPG’s). Marcus was also missing in action (MIA) for several days, the entire time being hunted by the Taliban warriors. The SEALs are the hardest pressed, most trained , ultimate warriors. Little information is given as to why Marcus wanted to become a SEAL. The book does talk about his father training him and his twin brother to be more than proficient in the water at a nearby lake. Marcus does say something to the effect of “I always felt like my father wanted us to become SEALs, though he never said it.” Marcus went through some of the most intense training that can be put upon a human being. His class, 228, consisted of nearly two hundred people at the beginning of their advanced SEALs and BUD/S training, but that number was decreased to less than 50 within a few weeks. During an especially difficult period of his training he was forced to stay awake for 6 days straight, all the while doing intense training. If at any point a single person messed up the entire class was told to “Get wet and sandy”. This meant becoming fully submerged in the ocean,even if it was the middle of the night, and then rolling in the sand to increase pain and chaffing. Marcus develops an extreme amount of character and determination during this time period, more than any other experiences in his prior
