The Influence of Commercials on Children
In his essay,” What Are Commercials Selling to Children,” John O’Connor writes that commercials sell not products, but also stereotype, attitudes, languages and value. Commercials are very popular among youth. More to the point, he says that they sell racist attitudes and values. Almost every commercial make infinitely repetitive sales that point to the hair and the style of the dolls, unhealthy foods. The author emphasizes that commercial production since the 1980s rejects morality and focuses on racism.
At the present time, there are a lot of commercials on various topics. Some commercials have a positive effect on children and some negatively. Negative commercials, such as: sugar cereals, sweet drinks, fast- food, preservation of stereotypes, language attitudes, and values. For example: The commercial for “Happy Meal” at first glance, all is well-happy, smiling face of children, delicious food and most importantly a ‘’Surprise’’.
