Throughout the years, there have been a few common characteristics in America’s presidents. In Cal Seville’s video, “How to win the U.S. presidency”, it explain how Presidents are expected to maintain a type of image that portrays them as the leader America needs. Seville describes the occurring qualities each leading man has had or needs to have to win the election. American Presidents have all had wealth, celebrity connections, and political backgrounds in common.

Money is something that is a necessity when running for President. The average candidate spends between seven hundred and fifty million to one billion dollars over the course of a few years. Many government officials claim it is mind boggling at how much a person can spend for the election. Craig Holmen states that “Even with a bad economy, one thing that is not doing poorly is the money flowing into the presidential elections.” From political ads, to newspapers, to even televised debates. Billions are spent year after year by candidates for a shot at the presidential position.

It is extremely uncommon for a person to become president and not have had some sort of background in politics, although it has been done. Though there are no rules on having political experience and making it to the White House, voters might consider someone with more experience as a better leader for their country. Previous presidents have had political or military background when running for office. Donald Trump and Herbert Hoover have been the only men in presidential history to have neither of those trainings, and yet somehow managed to become President of the United States.
