Assignment number 1: The role of communication and interpersonal interaction in health and social care.
P1: In this part of the assignment I have created a detailed booklet for the health and social care workers working in woodlands day care centre, giving them advice on effective communication and interpersonal interactions. I will be describing the different forms of communication and interpersonal interactions and how it useful for the elderly in woodlands day care centres.
The forms of communication and interpersonal interactions that would occur in the health and social care setting:

Touch
Interpersonal interactions
Tone of voice
Body language
Language (First language, dialect, slang, jargon)
Non verbal
One to one- In woodlands day care centre One to one communication will help the elderly by allowing them to have an open conversation with the health and social care workers without feeling under pressure and shy where as if it was with a group it may make them feel uncomfortable. In woodlands day care centre some of the elderly may prefer having a one to one talk with health and social care workers because they may feel more open if it was just them alone with the care worker, or they may not get along in a group talk with other elderly.
Sign language/pictures- Sign language/pictures is a form of communication using visual gestures and signs as used towards and by deaf people. This enables them to communicate with their hearing impaired peers. It also helps them with their hand eye coordination and general communication skills. In woodlands day care centre, perhaps if some of the elderly where deaf, sign language would be very helpful and useful to communicate with them also it will allow them to understand you. Some elderly tend to find it hard to speak or listen or even understand what you are saying. By showing them pictures, for example a picture of food, this will instantly tell them that you are asking if they are hungry.
Groups- Group communications can be done with a small amount of people or large, it is mainly formed with 3 or more people. It is where information is shared, ideas are developed and decisions are made. This allows people to share their problems, take in and understand other people’s problems too. This would be a good form of communication with the elderly in woodlands day care centre because it will enable them to feel confident, share ideas/problems, be cooperative and create a friendly bond with other elderly in the day care centre. For example in the day care centre the elderly may think that they have nobody and are alone but by group communication they can create relationships with people and get to know them. They are more productive and would make the elderly feel that they are not the only ones with problems.
Touch- Touch communication can be done by allowing the elderly to feel and touch things. By giving them touch communication it gives them the feeling of being loved and would make them feel good inside. It is an easier way to get around to the elderly and create a good bond with them. As a social care worker in woodlands day care using touch communication will ensure you that the elderly will get along with you well and it give them a warm feeling. For example in woodlands day care centre some elderly may not feel loved or knows how it feels like, they may feel that no one cares or loves for them. By using touch communication and meaning it, they will feel warmer hearted.
Language- Language can come under different forms of interpersonal interactions such as dialect, slang, jargon and first language. It shapes our thoughts and feelings and forges our relationships with other people. Language is both verbal and non-verbal – our body language can confirm or contradict the words we are actually saying.
