In the movie Ordinary People, a family of three has conflicts that could be solved if the is communication between them was better. In addition to the bad communication, the main character Conrad has had emotional issues ever since his brother died in a boating accident. His family has a lot of grief that is not always expressed in healthy ways. There is a plethora of ways the family used other forms of expressing their emotions other than talking about them directly. They used masking and avoiding to fathom the complications.

Conrad was prone to attack situations by saying hateful things, but nothing that was helpful. During the scene with the camera, onrade said some hateful things to his mom. His mom and his uncle were fighting about who was going to take the picture and who was going to be in the picture. After some friendly argument, Conrad screams “give me the… camera” . This depicts how he attacked his family for doing something that bothered him. Does he really care that much about the camera? One could say that the real problem is within himself. Because of this, he has a lot of frustration. One place where the frustration would come is through swimming. He wants to quit swimming because it “is not fun anymore”. The real reason he wants to quit is that it reminds him of his brother drowning. Unfortunately, his parents became upset with him when they found out that he wanted to quit. If he expressed this concern, then, they might have been more understanding. He should have not avoided the problem. Ultimately, that caused him to lash out at a different problem. In the end, one thing led to another and they all began to harp on a multitude of problems. They could have used mural purpose to solve some of these problems. By looking at both sides, it gives one a chance to understand the other person. The family had lots of lamentable problems that could be fixed with
