Community Asset-Map Analysis: Sparta Township

For this community asset-mapping assignment the community I have chose to look at is Sparta Township. Sparta Township is a thriving community, which is located in Sussex County, New Jersey. It is about 45 miles from New York City. Sparta covers more than 38 square miles and it is filled with hills, beautiful lakes, farms and a number of residential developments. I have lived in Sparta, New Jersey for about three years now and it has been such a great community to be apart of. It such a peaceful place to live and it is very beautiful no matter what the season is. Of those 19,722 there were approximately 6,868 households and 5,453 families in Sparta. In 2010, it was reported that the racial makeup of the Sparta township was approximately 94.15% (18,569) White, 1.00% (198) African American, 0.11% (22) Native American, 2.49% (491) Asian, 0.02% (4) Pacific Islander. In Sparta, New Jersey there is a very good public school system available to its residence. Sparta’s public school systems are available to students from kindergarten to twelfth grade. Residents in Sparta, New Jersey also have the option to send their children to the parochial Catholic school system, which includes Rev. George A. Brown Elementary and Pope John XXIII High School. Another option is the Sussex County Technical High School, which is a county wide school serving students between ninth and twelfth grade. Residence of Sparta, New Jersey also has the option of attending one of two independent schools. These two schools are the Hilltop Country Day School, which is a private school for grades K-8 and Veritas Christian Academy, which is a small private school serving students in ninth through twelfth grade. Most of Sparta, New Jersey’s residence received a high school diploma or GED. After high school many of the residences do choose to continue their education and attend a 2/or4 year college/university, or a technical program.
