This year enrollment in community colleges has increased across the country, while four-year institutions have seen a small drop in student population. There are a number of reasons why more students are opting to enroll in their local community college, rather than going straight to four-year institutions. Community college is a better way to begin your college career than a four-year university because it is less expensive, provides more support, and offers smaller class sizes. The cost of tuition is a very important factor for most people when they choose a college. Although tuition is getting more expensive across the board, community colleges are still significantly more affordable than most four-year institutions. The reasons countless students are attending community college rather than a four-year university are because it is less expensive. The lower tuition at a community college helps stretch a college budget further and gives a person a better chance of earning a bachelor’s degree. Community Colleges offer a variety of services to help students. Services that are often found at community colleges include counseling, advising, tutorials, health care, financial aid, and library services. At Thomas Nelson Community College, if students are struggling with any of their homework or class work, they can go directly to the Writing Center, the Math Emporium, or to their teachers for help. For example, if students are struggle with their English in writing and reading, they can go to the writing center in liberty for help.
