Community policing is a philosophy that is highly disscussed throughout law enforcement and, has been around for over a decade. The main question that is commonly asked and talked about is whether community policing is effective or uneffective. In light of this, the argument is how can community policing work with others. Recently this year there has been school shootings as well as numerous friction between black lives matter and law enforcemnet.
The purpose of this paper is to examine why community policings stradigies are effective and should be used more. First I will explain what community policing is and its starting history, then explain some ways law enforcement can effectively use community policing. Next I will go over how it can

The history behind community policing first started by a man named Sir Robert Peel who is the founder of modern policing and
BELL 2 came up with the nine principles that were applied to modern day policing these principles are also known as the peelian principles. These principles are conciderd to be the basic foundation of our current law enforcemnt organizations and community policing throught all the world. Sir robert peels most quoted principle was peelian principle 7 “Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.” (Nazemi).
Since community policing is highly focused on building relationships with the community there are many ways that law enforcement can use community policing effectively, such as getting involved with our local schools to make them much safer. D.A.R.E helps with making young people be able to relate to officers as people and see that they are not only enforceing the law but also there to help. Jim Buck from the Los Angelese police department uses stradigies from community policing to fight terrorism. The stradigies that Buck uses are proactive joint problem solving to build trust and cooperation to address the problems that ruin public saftey. Half of the United States police agencies are using the practices of outreach and engagment towards communitys that are being attacked and used as recruitment for terrorism (Weine).
