Community service has been an extremely rewarding experience for me, I have always loved to work with people and help people out the best that I can. The activities I participated in gave me an opportunity to meet new people and feel like I am making a difference. I did my community service hours at many different places because I wanted the opportunity to explore different things and be around all age groups. One activity that I did was volunteer at the kindergarten screenings at licking valley elementary. The purpose of a screening is to make sure that the child is developmentally ready to start kindergarten and if the child will need any additional support in the classroom. I participated in the screenings my junior and senior year, this was an awesome experience for me because I was able to use many of my skills that I got from the clinical program at c-tec. I mostly helped in the vision room and worked with nurses from licking memorial, this was cool to me because I got to meet them and talk to them about nursing. They provide games, snacks, lunch, dinner, dances and many more activities so that they are involved in something and staying healthy. This gives the senior citizens an opportunity to be around people and have fun. When I went to volunteer I played games with them such as sit down volleyball and had so much fun. They all really enjoyed having me play because they were all able to beat me and show me their rules. I also helped put their newsletters together and hand them out. I sat with them during their lunch and was able to learn more about their lives and why they liked the program so much. This experience really inspired me, I love being around old people and knowing about their life. I am going to college to be a nurse and I would love to be a nurse for a nursing home or hospice
