“I’m going outside to get some fresh air”, a phrase people often hear on their everyday lives. The question is, is there any remaining fresh air left? Admittedly for many years, scientists all over the world have proven that the air has already becoming on its poor state- the so called “Air pollution.” Air Pollution is one of the major environmental concerns nowadays. With the modernization and progress of industries, people have noticed the terms smog, greenhouse gases-Carbon dioxide, methane, CFCs, global warming, climate change etc. The pollutants mentioned is actually the harmful substances in the atmosphere which can damage the environment. Polluting the environment, especially the air can cause people to have major health problems also to plants and animals. Manitoba for example, taking some initiative to spread out the awareness about air pollution. One agency of Manitoba government called Green Manitoba, has an objective of minimizing the adverse of climate change impacts. Green Manitoba has a lot of programs, including recycling, water-care, school-garden program and the one called Commuter Challenge. Green Manitoba is very known is its Commuter Challenge that is an event that is taking place during Environmental week (June1-7) annually. People are encourage to bus, bike, walk, skate, paddle, and carpool and telecommute to work or school to emphasize a climate-friendly way of commuting. Manitoba Public Insurance has also taking large part as it introduces to its young driver learners about understanding the relationship between driving and the environment and fuel efficiency.
